The Montessori School

The Rottingdean Montessori Nursery School welcomes children from the age of two and a half to five years into a warm, friendly environment.

The School has qualified members of staff, who have all been extensively CRB checked, as required by the law. The school does occasionally have students in attendance.

The school is registered with OFSTED to take 24 Pupils.

Dr. Montessori initiated a child-centered programme, which integrates all aspects of a child's development. The child is encouraged to think of him or herself as a person and to join in the life of the school, and to work in an atmosphere of well-supervised independence.

The teacher is known as the Directress and is the vital link between the child and the environment.

This school's prepared syllabus is devoted to various areas of activity to cater for the child's needs:

•Practical life (care of self and the environment);

•Refinement of the senses;

•Language and vocabulary skills;

•Creative arts and music;

•French;

•Development of number concepts;

•Awareness of the environment, both geographically and historically;

At this age, the children are able to absorb these concepts easily through their enquiring minds.

Montessori is an aid to life
